Common Polish Verbs
These are the 27 words for everyday actions that the Jasny Polski course teaches first — the ones that turn up in your first real conversations. Each comes with a sentence, so you can see how the word behaves rather than only what it means.
How to use these words
Present-tense verbs mostly follow three types — czytam, czytasz; mówię, mówisz; piszę, piszesz — and the infinitive does not reliably tell you which, so learn the ja and ty forms with each verb. One rule you can trust: verbs in -ować almost always go -uję, -ujesz: pracować → pracuję, gotować → gotuję, studiować → studiuję.
Lubić takes either another verb or a thing: Lubię czytać, Lubię muzykę. With a thing, a feminine word in -a turns into -ę.
