Shopping in Polish
These are the 38 words for shopping that the Jasny Polski course teaches first — the ones that turn up in your first real conversations. Each comes with a sentence, so you can see how the word behaves rather than only what it means.
How to use these words
The question you need first is Ile to kosztuje? — how much is it? The answer brings the one tricky word on this list: złoty changes with the number. It is jeden złoty, then dwa, trzy, cztery złote, and from pięć upwards złotych. The teens (12–14) also take złotych, while 22–24 go back to złote.
At the till (kasa) you ask for things with poproszę and a feminine word in -a turns to -ę: Poproszę torbę. Paragon is the receipt, and reszta is your change.
