Food in Polish
These are the 20 words for food that the Jasny Polski course teaches first — the ones that turn up in your first real conversations. Each comes with a sentence, so you can see how the word behaves rather than only what it means.
How to use these words
You will mostly say these words after poproszę (I'd like), and that changes feminine words in -a: zupa becomes zupę, czekolada becomes czekoladę — Poproszę zupę. Masculine things and neuter words stay as they are: Poproszę chleb, Poproszę ciasto. Watch banan: in speech it is usually Poproszę banana.
When something has run out, Polish switches to the genitive: Nie ma chleba, Nie ma mleka. And before anyone starts eating, you say Smacznego!

The nouns by gender
- Masculine (ten): banan, dżem, chleb, ser, cukier
- Feminine (ta): ryba, woda, cytryna, sól, zupa, pizza, czekolada
- Neuter (to): jajko, ciasto, jabłko, mięso, mleko, masło
