People and Pronouns in Polish
These are the 24 words for people that the Jasny Polski course teaches first — the ones that turn up in your first real conversations. Each comes with a sentence, so you can see how the word behaves rather than only what it means.
How to use these words
Polish usually leaves the pronoun out, because the verb ending already says who: jestem is "I am", jesteś is "you are". You keep it for contrast: Ja jestem z Ukrainy, a on jest z Polski.
"They" has two words: oni for any group with at least one man, one for women, children and things. And a friend is not always a friend: kolega is a mate, przyjaciel a close friend, and chłopak or dziewczyna can mean a boyfriend or girlfriend.
