Family Words in Polish

These are the 13 words for family that the Jasny Polski course teaches first — the ones that turn up in your first real conversations. Each comes with a sentence, so you can see how the word behaves rather than only what it means.

How to use these words

My changes with the word it belongs to: mój brat, moja siostra, moje dziecko. Watch tata — it ends in -a but it is a man, so it takes the masculine form: mój tata.

After mam (I have) the person changes its ending: brat becomes brata and siostra becomes siostrę — Mam brata i siostrę. It is the accusative case, and family words are one of the first places a beginner needs it.
