Essential Polish Words for Beginners

These are the 66 words for the basics that the Jasny Polski course teaches first — the ones that turn up in your first real conversations. Each comes with a sentence, so you can see how the word behaves rather than only what it means.

How to use these words

These are the words that hold sentences together — pronouns, question words, "yes", "no", "always", "only". Many of them — tak, nie, też, zawsze, tylko, bardzo — never change their form, so they are the quickest to learn. Pronouns and question words do change (ja → mnie, kto → kogo), and the course teaches those forms one at a time.

Nie goes straight before the verb — Nie wiem, Nie rozumiem — and it stays there even when the sentence already says "nothing" or "never": Nic nie wiem, Nigdy nie czytam.
