Polish Adjectives for Describing Things

These are the 17 words for describing things that the Jasny Polski course teaches first — the ones that turn up in your first real conversations. Each comes with a sentence, so you can see how the word behaves rather than only what it means.

How to use these words

An adjective takes the gender of its noun: nowy telefon, nowa książka, nowe okno. Adjectives in -i follow the same pattern with -i, -a, -ie: tani, tania, tanie.

Dobry describes a thing and dobrze describes how something is done: dobry film, but Mówię dobrze po polsku. The question to ask about a thing is jaki (jaka, jakie): Jaki to jest dom? — Duży.
