Question Words in Polish

These are the 6 words for asking questions that the Jasny Polski course teaches first — the ones that turn up in your first real conversations. Each comes with a sentence, so you can see how the word behaves rather than only what it means.

How to use these words

A yes-or-no question can open with czy, which only marks the question: Czy mówisz po polsku? In speech it is often left out and intonation does the job: Mówisz po polsku? Every other question starts with its question word: Gdzie mieszkasz? Kiedy pracujesz? Dlaczego? — Bo…

Jaki (what kind of) agrees with its noun like an adjective: jaki dom, jaka lampa, jakie okno.
